About This Blog...

Hey guys! I am honored that you would take the time to read this blog. I hope that what I have to share will be worth your time. You may ask yourself, "What's up with the title of this blog?" The title Siloam's Pool comes from John 9:7. There was a man who came to Jesus who was born blind. As Jesus and the disciples passed by the man, Jesus used this man's condition to teach an important spiritual lesson to his followers. Jesus affirmed that the man had been born blind in order that God might be honored through this man's life. Then Jesus said in a dramatic statement, "We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." (John 9:4-5). He then told the man to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam. The name "Siloam" means "sent." The man went and washed and came back seeing. It is my hope that through this blog, that perhaps someone might see as a result of the truth that is shared here. I will do my best to honor your time. God bless!

There's No App for That
June 6, 2011

We live in an age where technology abounds in just about every aspect of our lives. Since the space age, we have been on a course to develop technology faster than any other age in history. With our new technology has come the invention many of us use called the Smartphone. With Smartphone, you can now surf the web, listen to music, get directions, search for gas prices, and a whole host of other things.

Embedded into the heart of Smartphones are the applications, or “apps.” There are really three major companies that are competing in the Smartphone market: Apple, Android (Google), and Blackberry. One of the things that all of these companies try to use to attract uses is the number of apps available for use on their platform. Apple currently boasts of over 30,000 apps in their App Store. The tag line that they often use is, “There’s an app for that!”  While this may be true of Smartphones, it is certainly not true of the church.

When we say the word church, what comes to mind for you? For most people, they will immediately think of Sunday morning worship services with a long winded pastor ……(awkward pause)……and a choir singing, or a praise team leading the worship. You may be Baptist and think of fried chicken fellowships and the like. Most often when we think of church, we are thinking of church services and functions, not the real church itself. The problem is that this is exactly why many people outside of the church no longer see the church as vital to their lives. We are missing what the church really is

The only way for the church to be vital to the lives of its members and the lives of the community around it is to realize that, “There’s no app for that!” What I mean is, the church is a living body of believers that are sharing life together in the community of faith through the blood of Jesus (1 Peter. 2:4-5). The church is not simply a building, but it is actually a living organism of people growing into the headship of Christ (Eph. 4:15).  According to Acts 2:42-47, the church is really the daily fellowship of its members together under the lordship of Christ. There is no category of Christian who simply attends services and sits idle. Instead, we all work together to minister to others in the body. There is a place of service for every individual in the family of God and we should expect and help to cultivate such service. If you will, there’s no app for what God has called you and I to do in the family of God. May God bless you and keep you as you serve Him through the body of Christ.

I still have a "dumb phone", but what you say is true. Whatever we "as the body of Christ" has to do or use, to get the Word of God out to the lost, We need to do!! I --lead by The Holy Spirit, am trying to use facebook for the same purpose, to Glorify God. People are hurting, crying out for help, and I try to respond, lead by the Holy Spirit, to give them comfort. My righteousness is as filthy rags, but it is my prayer, that God can use a wretch like me to use the tools He has made available, to feed His sheep!!! So, let me know what I can do, to help further His Kingdom. Do I need to get a "Smart Phone" ????
