VESSELS OF HONOR

May 7, 2023

What’s the difference between a chandelier and a toilet plunger? Both of them are important, but one is given more dignity than another. You ever been to a fancy hotel or a fancy mansion and they have some of the most beautiful, artistic chandeliers and crown molding, but then they don’t have some of the dollar store basics when you need them? I’ll let you figure out what I’m talking about there!

Well, tonight, we are going to be looking at what Paul had to say about being a vessel of honor. In the church there were some false teachers and some true believers. Paul has been telling Timothy to be different. He’s told him to study and make sure he cuts it straight when it comes to studying the Word and teaching the Word. This was in stark contrast to the false teachers who were very careless with the Word and tended to focus on speculation that could not be proven by the Word.

You know when people go beyond the Word of God, there aren’t very many things you can say against them, because there isn’t a rule to check them by. When someone preaches the Bible, you can study the Bible and hold them to it.

Well, we are about to enter into a section in 2 Timothy where Paul is going to contrast the lifestyles of the false teachers and the godly. Let’s take a look at a couple of verses where Paul talks about what kind of vessel we will be.
